The Last Fight Documentary International Documentary Festival Amsterdam Dutch Competition 2017 Nederlands Film Festival Official Selection 2018 Raindance Film Festival Official Selection 2018 Beijing International Film Festival Official Selection This is the story of mixed martial arts pioneer Marloes Coenen. The documentary chronicles her last years, fighting in the Bellator MMA Featherweight division and gunning for the belt once more. The Last Fight is an action packed, emotional rollercoaster. It’s the first documentary that deeply examines the mind and soul of the modern-day gladiators of Mixed Martial Arts and allows us a glimpse into a secretive world. Director Victor Vroegindeweij and I started out at the same broadcaster and I think there is nobody who taught me more about film and life as much as Victor did. After working together on smaller projects for television, this was finally a big project we could sink our teeth into. Victor always lets me try out a lot of possibilities and is able to succinctly tell me what works (and what doesn’t), so we can get ideas onto the timeline very fast. There wasn’t a lot of money for music, so after a lot of experimenting with meticulously handpicked stock music we were able to mix together a pretty cool soundtrack ourselves. Victor and I also worked on other projects like Gaandeweg, For Better and For Worse and the award winning Halte. "It’s fascinating to see the frail and thoughtful Coenen pump herself up to merciless fervor. The Last Fight is cruel and intimate." Pauline Kleijer - De Volkskrant "The Last Fight is brilliantly made. Director Victor Vroegindeweij beautifully shows the process and the vulnerabilities from up close." Arjen Fortuin - NRC "The Last Fight shows very intimately how hunger, focus and conviction disappear, when the dream doesn’t hold up." Coen van Zwol - NRC Directed by Victor Vroegindeweij Camera by Mick van Dantzig Sound mixing Jeroen Goeijers Grading Qianwei Tong Edited by Patrick Schonewille and Tim Roza Produced by Witfilm, NRCV Running time 75 min Edited on Adobe Premiere Release date 2017
