New Documentary Prix Jeunesse PRIX JEUNESSE UNESCO Special Prize Copenhagen International Documentary Festival Honorable Mention 20214 Childrens Film Festival Seattle Best Short Documentary 2015 Mo&Friese Children’s Short Film Festival Best Short Documentary Mo award 9-12 year olds With big eyes eight-year-old Tanans looks around. The new school year has just begun. Tanans is Congolese, but he grew up in a Refugee Welcome Zone in Uganda. Together with his family he has travelled to the Netherlands as an ‘invited refugee’. For the first time he lives in a beautiful house, tries to find his balance on a bike, and learns Dutch. But above all, he tries to make sense of this strange, new world. Working with Eefje was so much fun, but also incredibly insightful. She is someone who is able to combine a naïve, almost childlike look of the world, with the knowledge of someone who has maybe seen too much. But even in the face of terrible things, she tries to create hopeful stories, just like this one. "The film made us cry and at other moments we just laughed with the boy and shared his excitement about the discoveries in his new everyday-life. We are looking forward to more films like this!“ Jury Report - Mo&Friese Festival Hamburg Directed by Eefje Blankevoort Produced by Witfilm, NCRV Soundmixing Hein Verhoeven Camera Ton Peeters Edited on Final Cut Pro Running time 20 min Release date 2014
