Dutch photographer Robin de Puy is successful, and for the last couple of years she has shot a never-ending parade of prestigious assignments. Something feels off however: is she still photographing the people who (in her opinion) should be seen? Armed with just a camera and a motorcycle Robin embarks on a journey across the United States.

Director Simone de Vries and I try to team-up each year at the film festival Rotterdam for their annual Film quiz, but between quizzes also managed to work together on multiple projects. This film about Robin de Puy was our first collaboration and we hit it off right away. Simone often patiently left me to my own devices, but always knew exactly the questions to ask to get the best out of me. She is a fearless and curious director who always gave me a lot of confidence to do the wrong things, until we found the right ones.

We also worked on ‘Igone – En als beloning zweef je‘ and ‘Maxima – De Pleitbezorger’.

"Robin de Puy is a hero. A sublime road movie, which also tells us a lot about the current state of the American underclass."

Hans Beerenkamp - NRC

"The film is an intimate portrait that shows Robin wrestling with her anxiety and insecurities, but also how she is getting to know herself through her photography."
